Tonight marked the debut of Transformers Prime, a weekly computer-animated cartoon on the also newly launched channel, The Hub (http://hubworld.com). The styling and action are more in line with the recent Tranformers movies than the cartoon I grew up with, but it’s cool that one of my favorite childhood cartoon franchises is being carried on in a way which my kids can actually watch (as opposed to the movies, which are not school-age friendly in my opinion). Still, I miss the original robots that actually somewhat resembled the objects they were in disguise.
This is my first introduction to The Hub, but as I browse their website, the programming all has a familiar feel to it. Tranformers, G.I. Joe, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake… even Pound Puppies! All they need is He-Man and a few Smurfs and their 80s collection would be complete. I like the nostalgia, but I wonder: is this really the best we can do? Pound Puppies. Really?
