The new children’s album I Want a Dog! by Jamie Broza (released March 15 by Good Mood Records) is not just for the dogs. It is fun and eclectic, in both style and subject matter, with a little something for everyone, even cat lovers. This will be the first new children’s album released by the four-time Emmy Award-winning composer/performer in the past five years.

Broza’s new album is really a family affair. He performs an enchanting duet with his daughter Carmen in “Waters of March.” In addition, his cousin and Israeli superstar David Broza sings and plays lead classical guitar on the track “Guatemala.”

Along with extolling the virtues of having a dog, this album begs parents to turn off their cell phones, shares the fears of starting a new school, and explains why birthday parties always end in tears. The music has a mostly Latin-infused feel to it with a splash of Calypso and an upbeat twang thrown into the mix for the title song.

I Want a Dog! is the kind of album parents can enjoy listening to; fun and upbeat without being over the top or getting the kids all wound up. In other words, perfect for a long car ride.

Inspired by his family’s rescue dog, Dusty, twenty percent of the profits from I Want a Dog! will be donated to North Shore Animal League America, the organization that Dusty was adopted from.
