I Love You, Man (rated R)
Paul Rudd (Role Models) moves to the front of the comedian brat pack in a hilarious feature which raises the bar of the “Bro-mance” movie.
He plays Peter Klaven, a “girlfriend” guy, meaning he’s a serial monogamist who puts so much of his energy into his relationships with women that he’s failed to develop meaningful friendships with male friends. Now forced to find a best man for his wedding, he seeks a new male companion to fill this void in his life.
After various unsuccessful “man-dates”, he meets Sidney Fife, an unapologetic “cougar hunter” with a man cave, played by Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall). As he explores this relationship with his new best friend, he begins to deal with some issues he’s never addressed, such as his inability to relate to typical “alpha males,” discussing with his fiancée his rights to “reciprocation,” and his reluctance to “market himself” in the right way.
Rudd’s relatable awkwardness is delightfully painful to watch. I Love You, Man makes you cringe and laugh simultaneously till you find yourself covering your eyes while peeking at the train wreck of Rudd’s character finding his social bearings. He reminds you of every syllabic babble, or T.M.I. (Too Much Info) moment you’ve been guilty of in your own life while giving you the ability to laugh at yourself through him. Very few comedians can create this intense self-deprecation and not come across as a buffoon. Rudd does it splendidly.
Segel and the rest of the cast are unbelievably funny, with too many great moments to write in one sitting. Suffice to say each member partakes in laugh out loud moments that hit you in the gut
Take the wife to this one, as it will give her some insight (and appreciation) into the complexities of male social interaction. It may also make for hilarious conversation at the next guy’s only poker game.
Your Daddy Time: Worth It or Wasted? Worth It! 4/5 Stars
The Rating System is for dads who need to know one thing- Is this movie WORTH IT to:
* Pack up the kids, bags, etc and trek to the theater – or
* Find a babysitter so Dad can have a date night – or
* Cash in brownie points with the Mrs. so he can go with his buddies
If it doesn’t fit these simple criteria, the movie gets the WASTED rating, which means – don’t waste the precious time you have, wait for video/cable when you can squeeze it between chores, work and sleep.

I can’t wait to see this. I have had a man-crush on Paul Rudd ever since Wet Hot American Summer.
