[GIVEAWAY] Win David Baldacci’s True Blue!

Perhaps you noticed our extended downtime last week.  It’s still a mystery to us why our web host, Bluehost.com, has been giving us so much trouble (after all, they generally have a good reputation for service and support), but it’s no mystery that we’re back right now and working to make sure we stay right where you can find us any and every time you’re ready for The Father Life!

Speaking of mysteries, David Baldacci, author of several New York Times bestsellers, has a new book out today: True Blue.  I have five copies of this engaging novel to give away.  All you have to do to get your name into consideration for one of these copies of True Blue is 1) leave a comment at the end of this article or 2) tweet this use the following link: tweet me!  We’ll announce the winners no earlier than 10/29/2009.

True Blue is good contemporary fiction.  What do I mean by that?  Like a blockbuster movie, it’s entertaining and enjoyable.  You’ll come away having had a good time, but it’s not going to change your world or make you a better person (Of course, not all fiction can attempt such a lofty goal , and that’s probably a good thing).  If you read for fun/to escape/to be entertained, True Blue will fit the bill and do it well.

It has some action, some suspense, a little mystery, plenty of intrigue, and characters you can identify with and root for.   Baldacci knows his stuff, having done plenty of research into the operations of the courts and police of Washington, D.C.,  as well as the community of intelligence agencies that exist at the Federal level in the US.  I’ll leave the formal synopsis to the professionals, but I will say this: I read True Blue and enjoyed it; it kept me thinking and kept my attention.  I recommend it, with one caveat: it does have some foul language, which is understandable considering the setting.  In reality, if you were to go to the same places as the characters of this book, you’d probably hear a lot more (and a lot worse).  Still, it’s something that bugs me and would prevent me from making the recommendation to some people I know who are even more sensitive to language than am I.  You’ve been warned.
