[BOOK REVIEW] A Twist of Lemmon: A Tribute to My Father

In my previous article, I encouraged all you men out there to rediscover the joy of reading.  Still searching for that perfect book?  Look no further.

I recently read A Twist of Lemmon: A Tribute to My Father, written by Chris Lemmon, and I strongly recommend that each and every one of my readers do the same.  Whether you are a dad, a son, or both, I guarantee that Jack Lemmon’s life story will serve as a constant reminder of the importance of cherishing the moments you spend and the memories you make with the boy you raised and the man that raised you.

Jack’s motion pictures made you laugh, and so will this memoir-style book, which — I am warning you right now — will probably also make you cry.

You will learn all about what Chris — who, despite growing up in a broken home, was Jack’s biggest fan and closest friend — calls the “Lemmon Legacy” and “Lilac Lemmon” factors, as well as what it was like to be the son of an award-winning movie star.

You will discover that Jack — in the face of his fame and fortune — was an everyman, who, like just about every man, was fond of golf, music, and travel.  Fortunately for Chris, he absolutely adored his son.  And, the two of them enjoyed time together on the green, at the piano, and around the world.

Mr. Lemmon’s followers will relish the book’s handsome cover, candid foreword by Kevin Spacey, black-and-white snapshots of Jack’s earlier and later days, and touching testimonials by Neil Simon, Blake Edwards, Andy Garcia, Julie Andrews, and Shirley MacLaine.

Since it is intended for males of all ages, you do not have to have seen any of Jack Lemmon’s films to appreciate A Twist of Lemmon.  But, after reading it, do not be surprised if you find yourself wanting to rent one.
