2012 Father’s Day Gift Guide

I have the greatest Father’s Days gifts come from here over the years.  My wife and kids always make me feel especially loved and appreciated with these unique finds, which is impressive given that they make me feel that on a daily basis anyway.  I even received the best possible Father’s Day gift one year — my youngest daughter was born on Father’s Day!

When I ask The Father Life‘s readers what they want for Father’s Day, their answers invariably reflect what my own would be; “time with family” always tops the list.  Nevertheless, we dads do have  a few other things in life we enjoy, so here is this year’s TFL Father’s Day Gift Guide, complete with a few things a guy might just like to receive.

Let’s start the list with Virginia Cocktail Peanuts. Peanuts?  Yes, peanuts.  There aren’t your garden variety snack food, though.  Virginia Cocktail Peanuts from MV’s Best come straight from the Commonwealth of Virginia.  I’ve tried them myself, and I can attest to the fact that they’re bigger and crunchier that what you’ll find in the grocery store.  Available in a variety of flavors from MV’s Best, www.mvsbest.com. Prices vary.

Wurkin Stiffs RFID WalletUpgrade dad’s wallet with the RFID Wallet from Würkin Stiffs.  Made of leather fused with a thin alloy matrix, the RFID Wallet will prevent anyone from successfully scanning the RFID chips in your credit and ID cards, keeping you safe from unwanted identity theft.  High-tech, slim, and stylish, the RFID Wallet is available directly from Würkin Stiffs for $75. For the month of June, 5% of every sale at www.wurkinstiffs.com will be donated to ZERO: The Project to End Prostate Cancer.

Pens are a classic kind of Father’s Day gift, but have you ever seen a pen hand-crafted from real hardwoods?  Wildwoods of NY makes a number of different styles using woods such as ash, cherry, and black walnut.  I personally like the Wall Street Rollerball pen ($45); it’s stylish and comfortable and available at a price that simply is unbeatable.  Available at www.gobuyrochester.com/wildwoodsofny.

travel alarm clockIf dad travels frequently or just has a taste for things with a vintage feel, check out the Red Classic Travel Alarm Clock from Unique Vintage.  Simple, straightforward, and beautiful, I’d be happy to add one of these retro timepieces to my travel setup.  $12 at www.unique-vintage.com

If you’re a descendent of Robert Frost, what should you do with your life?  Why, raise grass-fed cattle and produce delicious, organic steaks.  Prescott Frost’s family farm in Nebraska produces premium steaks and other beef products, all 100% organic and 100% delicious.  Through Father’s Day, they’re offering free shipping on all orders.  Prices vary. www.prescottfrost.com

michael-jordanThis may seem ridiculous to include alongside premium products like hand-crafted wood pens and grass-fed filet mignon, but I’m also recommending ComfortSoft cotton garments from Hanes.  These really are the most comfortable undergarments I have ever found; the quality simply has no comparison.  Dad may not realize it at first, but once he’s wearing ComfortSoft, he’ll never go back to ordinary cotton t-shirts or underwear again.   Besides, it’s good enough for Michael, right? Prices vary. www.hanes.com

AC/DC PinballOK, you’re still looking for something unique for dad?  Here you go: an AC/DC pinball machine.  Celebrating 40+ years of rock-n-roll history, the AC/DC Pinball machine is sure to provide years of entertainment (and I bet no one else on the block will have one, either).  $5,699 from Stern Pinball, www.sternpinball.com.

Revised to add outbound links, June 6, 2013.
