Led by 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram, the Alabama Crimson Tide took down the Texas Longhorns in the 2010 BCS National Championship game 37-21. This was the first meeting between the two schools since 1982 and the first ever win by Alabama over Texas (previously they were 0-7-1). Played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on January 7th, this was the culmination of another exciting year in Division one college football.
Another season is upon us. Teams actually began play last weekend with #6TCU toppling #24 Oregon State 30-21, #21 LSU barely holding on to beat #18 UNC 30-24, #Alabama easily dismantling San Jose State 48-3 and #3 Boise State coming back to beat #10 Virginia Tech as time was running out. It’s hard to top that first weekend of action, but this Saturday promises to have even more oohs and aahs.
Michigan Travels to South Bend to take on the Fighting Irish, #22 Georgia takes on #24 South Carolina, #2 Ohio State plays #12 Miami and #1 Alabama hosts #18 Penn State under the lights.
With so many great programs, predicting a national champion is getting harder and hard every season. The easy route would be the say that Alabama is going to repeat, but that is a slap in the face of the likes of Boise State, Ohio State, Texas and Oregon.
Personally, I would love to see Boise State win the whole thing. But, they didn’t lose a game last season and were left out of the national championship discussion. They beat a really talented Virginia Tech team in their opener, but the rest of their schedule is less that sensational. The only decent team they play again is Oregon State on September 25th, and that is a home game. They should easily go undefeated, yet it remains to be seen whether or not they will get the respect they deserve. At least they are already #3 and don’t need to do much to work their way to #2.
