Dave - That was my father's name and the name of my best friends AND my younger son's middle name so you might say I'm partial to it. I think what you're saying was the case in generation's past. Now, we're dealing with so many complicated problems. In some segments of society, the father is almost completely absent. In others, it's a 50-50 proposition given divorce or both parents working. The biggest problem is our schools where the feminization of them has hurt our boys terribly. Just look at drop-out statistics in high school and new enrollments in college!? It's literally a C-change that is not good for either gender! The feminist movement has hurt EVERYONE and needs to achieve a balance between the rights women are entitled and taking away the inherent nature of boys and men - or, more specifically, understanding our different natures, celebrating the good, and managing the bad in BOTH genders. As you can see, I get passionate about this subject and have written more and other stuff about it. Thanks for your comment Dave. Nice name.

(Lupton & Barclay. 1997) identified that mothers exert the dominant influence over a kids development whereas the father takes on more a secondary role, with little to do with the day to day needs of infants. This can be attributed to society expectations and the reality of dads' bread-winning role.
Dad was distant and in later years he became the genial playmate.
The consequences make me infer that the father plays a minimal part in shaping the overall experiences and development of their children.Perhaps the personalities we see of adults today, are a truer reflection of the maternal versus the paternal. What do you think?
